Tell The Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt
In this striking literary debut, Carol Rifka Brunt unfolds a moving story of love, grief, and renewal as two lonely people become the unlikeliest of friends and find that sometimes you don’t know you’ve lost someone until you’ve found them. 1987. There’s only one person who has ever truly understood fourteen-year-old June Elbus, and that’s her uncle, the renowned painter Finn Weiss. Shy at school and distant from her older sister, June can only be herself in Finn’s company; he is her godfather, confidant, and best friend. So when he dies, far too young, of a mysterious illness her mother can barely speak about, June’s world is turned upside down. But Finn’s death brings a surprise acquaintance into June’s life—someone who will help her to heal, and to question what she thinks she knows about Finn, her family, and even her own heart.#mce_temp_url#

When I finish my university education I’m thinking I want to move back to my hometown.

I know most people would state the opposite, but I love the town where I grew up and live. Most kids here gripe and complain since kindergarten about how this town is so dull and lifeless and there’s nothing ever to do here.

I, on the other hand, have fond memories here. Going to the park with my mother Saturday mornings where, when I was younger, she would read and I would play, then later when I was older, we’d both read side by side, perfectly content with each other’s presence. Studying hard to make the grade at my high school where I made lifelong friendships with classmates and some of my favorite teachers. Walking to the library with an armful of books, only to return with another armful of books. I can’t complain about my childhood and years living here, it was more than perfect.

I plan on returning, I’ve decided, and perhaps being an English teacher at the high school. I’d love to instill my love of knowledge, literature and education in general to some kids here.

Also, when I return I want to open a used bookstore. I think that’s the one and only thing this town needs. There is a Barnes & Noble in the town’s mall, but it’s just not the same as a small, independent bookstore. First of all, the ambiance is way different. B&N is great, but too impersonal.

When we travel we make it a point to stop at least once in a used bookstore. People are friendlier, the overall mood is relaxing, the lights are dim (perfect for reading), there are books as far as the eye can see, and all at a reasonable price.

That’s nirvana, if you ask me.

Half.com is offering free shipping until 6/4

Well it’s not completely free.

The code FREESHIP discounts up to 25 dollars from shipping fees on an order of 10 dollars or more.

I purchased a textbook and six additional books with the total coming out to 60+ dollars. After the coupon, I only paid 37 dollars.

After you’ve completed your order and have calculated to exactly where you want it, add the code in the indicated spot at the bottom of your shopping cart screen.

The code can only be used ONCE so make sure your order is where you want it to be when adding the code.

That is all, happy shopping!

A-Z Author Challenge

booksandtea:

This challenge is simple, much like the A-Z Book challenge, all you have to do is aim to read 26 books by different authors, one for each letter of the alphabet - you can go by either first or last name! The time period is completely up to you, whether it be 6 months, 1 year or ongoing.

My A-Z…

This challenge is genius. Going to borrow it, if you don’t mind.
